SS Purple League, Malaysia’s Premier Professional Badminton League – A perfect arena for the country’s elite to go head-to-head with top players from around the world. A platform for young talents to access world-class competition in a local environment. The League uniquely unites clubs, players, fans and sponsors that shares the same passion for the sport – Badminton.
Entering its fourth year, with the total prize money of RM 1.5 Million at stake, the competition is fiercer than before with clubs attracting some of the biggest international names in the badminton world. The League has featured many Olympians, World Champions and World No. 1 hailing from all around the world. The star-studded field has included South Korea’s Badminton Superstars, Lee Yong Dae and Yoo Yeon Seong, China’s Zhao Yunlei, Chinese Taipei’s Tai Tzu Ying, Denmark’s Christinna Pedersen, Indonesia’s Markis Kido, Malaysia’s Men and Mixed Doubles Olympic Silver Medallist, Goh V Shem, Tan Wee Kiong, Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying and of course Malaysia’s Badminton Legend, Datuk Wira Lee Chong Wei.
The SS Purple League fosters a community to promote, nurture and develop young talents such as Goh Jin Wei, Leong Jun Hao, Lee Ying Ying and many more which have achieved success in their junior careers to greater heights with guidance from badminton greats such as Yap Kim Hock, Foo Kok Keong, Razif and Rashid Sidek.
The League utilises a unique and exciting format, teams compete in 2 stages: the Round Robin league system in the 1st stage and the Top 6 teams will then proceed to the knockout stage known as SSPL finals to take home the coveted championship trophy. The implementation of the 30 minute ruling last season also increase the excitement of the matches. The League is also an avenue for team managers to showcase their tactical prowess in grooming a new generation of badminton players.
